Sorry I didn’t notice your comments earlier, as they are greatly appreciated. I wrote this story in a white-heat sometime during the last weekend of July 2016, but it seemed jinxed by a local murder that happened not long thereafter, so I never even edited it properly. It is the second-last chapter from a book of stories titled To What End (available from Unveiling Nightmares in November 2024).
