At the beginning I was unsure that “bloodsucker” was a literal epithet, but lo and behold it was. If this guy, the narrator, was an experienced “hunter,” then he hadn’t learnrd much in his travels. Unless, of course, everything, even his insertion in the transparent block, is metaphor. By leaving it unclear, you allow the reader to complete the story and make it turn out the way she wants. Well done!
