You touch all the bases of great fiction: excellent backstory, good exposition and dialogue and a really compelling plot. Nice twist at the end, too. The reader is almost inside the head of your main character. Putting most of the story in the apartheid-like south of the 40s and 50s was prescient as well. Please write some more–a lot more, for I so enjoyed your story!
