Readers may be interested to find that this fiction is not altogether, well…fiction. It is based on a true story, but the events actually transpired in Kansas City, the real hometown of Hallmark Cards. Jenks (real name Fred Finks), the founder of the corporation, was finally found: in a traveling carnival, where he/she is employed as a transgender fat lady. I introduced Doug’s story to Ms./Mr. Finks and she/he vomited and declared that she/he would sue both Doug Hawley and Freedom Fiction’s publisher, Edna Quim. Thought you’d want to know.
